Who I Am

I’m Stephanie! It took me some time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Many of the skills that came naturally to me, like being a good listener, being understanding and compassionate and a good perspective taker slowly moved me in the direction of becoming a therapist. I am originally from the mid-west and did a wide variety of jobs, moves and travels before deciding to pursue this career. After finishing my master’s degree, I worked in community mental health for many years with young adults, and then a long time with foster youth and their families as a therapist, clinical supervisor and program manager. I decided to transition into private practice and I love my job! I feel very privileged to be invited into people’s lives and to offer them support in making changes that they want to make.

Wise Trees Counseling’s name came from how I think trees demonstrate wonderful qualities that people typically want to strive for, and things that are important to me; what I tend to identify with and value: wellness, wisdom, community/interdependence, independence, roots, equality, diversity, experience, nature, learning, growth, energy, strength, tolerance, stillness and movement, stability, esteem and acceptance. I have always said “wind makes trees stronger” and in our work together, we will find effective ways to get through, and be better during and after very difficult times in life.

These are attributes and concepts I am always seeking and working to improve in my life, and that I like to help others work towards too. I would really like to meet you and learn about how I can help!
